Practice Areas: Estate and Trust Planning

"There is nothing sinister in so arranging one's affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everybody does so, rich or poor, and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands: taxes are enforced extractions, not voluntary contributions."
Judge Learned Hand

Like fingerprints, every estate plan is unique to its owner. Because individuals have unique estate planning goals, each estate plan should be tailored to achieve the individual’s wishes and ensure that loved ones are provided for in the event of illness, incapacity or death.

R & T believes that close communication with the client is necessary to fully understand the client’s goals. Whether the goal is tax minimization, family support, comprehensive support for a special needs individual, continuation of a business, charitable giving or any combination of these or other goals, R & T works closely with the client to develop an estate plan that works as the client intended.

We use, among others, the following tools to develop estate plans:

Wills, powers of attorney and health care proxies
Marital trusts
Living trusts and family trusts
Special needs trusts
Charitable and planned giving arrangements such as charitable remainder trusts
Life insurance trusts
